Hello. My name is Dawn and I am the wife of one great husband and mother of four wonderful girls and one adorable boy. I love to sew, quilt, knit, embroider, and just craft. I consider myself primarily a sewist (seamstress, sewer, whatever . . . ) My girls are older now but I have been sewing for them since before they were born. When they were little girls I was into smocking and heirloom sewing which I still have a fondness for. But years ago when my youngest daughter asked (very politely) for an Easter dress without puffy sleeves, I knew my heirloom sewing days were over with the exception of the occasional (rare) shower gift. So my sewing shifted to more tailored clothes for the girls and summer shirts and tees.
Also, as you would probably expect, my own sewing was changing too. As my kids were getting older and motherhood was becoming less physical, I could actually wear something besides sweats so I also begin sewing clothes for myself. This is actually something that I had been doing all along, like a matching Easter dress or Christmas outfit if I had the time but I hadn’t really concentrated on making many items for me.
But that all changed when I became more active online and discovered blogs and podcasts and sewing forums and all the other online activity of moms and women just like me who like to make things. That’s when I taught myself to knit and to quilt and realized that I liked those crafts just as much as sewing. Making things for me, my family and my friends was just fun not matter what the craft and it seemed that there was no end of inspirations from others. I even tried my hand at spinning yarn too thanks to Ravelry and various podcasters, but gave it up because I just really didn’t have the time. I do reserve the right to pick it up again later. I’ve also tried to add my voice in different blogs throughout the years, but I never could really decide what I wanted to concentrate on within the blogs since there were so many things that I liked to do. So I’m really hoping and planning for this to be my final landing place.
